ChemChina Petrochemical Corporation formerly was the China Huachen Economic and Technological Development Center, which was founded in 1992, a secondary enterprise directly under the former Ministry of the Chemical Industry. In July 2004, the center was reorganized by ChemChina, becoming one of ChemChina's secondary professional firms. In July 2005, it was registered and renamed ChemChina Petrochemical Corporation with registered capital of RMB310 billion.

Undertaking a strategic mission to provide original, auxiliary materials for ChemChina's development strategy of "Traditional Chemical, Advanced Materials," ChemChina Petrochemical Corporation implements an industrial orientation of "oil-to-chemical co-development, building a bigger oil business while strengthening chemical field," that is, integrating refining and chemicals as a whole. The company's main businesses include oil exploitation, oil refining, petrochemicals, fine chemicals and petroleum import and export trade.

ChemChina Petrochemical Corporation currently has 10 holding subsidiaries. The company now has 56 sets of oil refining equipment, 10 sets of chemical equipment; has a refining primary processing capacity of 10.7 million tons per year, secondary processing capacity of 6.52 million tons per year, as well as some ancillary installations and MTBE devices; has chemical products production capacity of 404,000 t/a; possesses a 50,000 ton oil port with an annual handling capacity of 2 million tons, and 600,000 cubic meters of oil terminals. Major product structure covers the three sectors of oil processing, petrochemicals and fine chemicals. Main products are motor gasoline, light diesel oil, chemical light oil, MTBE, liquefied gas, polypropylene resin, acrylic acid and esters, ion-exchange membrane caustic soda, hydrochloric acid, agricultural potassium sulfate, PVC resin, sulfur, petroleum jelly and other petrochemical products, distributed in more than 20 provinces, cities and autonomous regions in the country.

ChemChina Petrochemical Corporation takes oil & gas exploration and petrochemical industries as its main industry and holds a goal of achieving refinery and chemical integration. In accordance with requirements of the modern enterprise system, the center established a scientific management system and a complete corporate management structure. In recent years, the company unites together from top to bottom and forges ahead, achieving a sustained, rapid and healthy development.
